Lucky SHD 400 Black & White film Review
Lucky black-and-white film series was a film used for practice when I first learned film photography.
As it was used for practice, it was very cheap for students to buy, and although it did not have the same quality as Kodak or Ilford, it was a good film to understand the characteristics of the film.
When I first purchased Lucky film in 2010, there was only a film called Lucky SHD 100, and the ISO was also only 100. Recently, when I was looking around the Internet, there was a film with the ISO of 400 of the same name, so I bought it and used it.
That film name is Lucky SHD 400
This is a picture of the packaging and film of this film.
| The Package of Lucky SHD 400 |
It has a normal design of packaging. It's quite different from the ISO 100 design I used before.
| The Canister of this film. |
This film is contained in a canister made of plastic with the style of bulk film that sell from local film market. at least it looks better than the well-crushed aluminum canister used in Lucky Film before.
I didn't check of the reusing this canister, maybe it can.
Also, the surface of this film is impressively navy blue. It has a distinctive smell.
Later, as I proceeded with the development process, I learned the identity of this color.
Before I showed you the developed and scanned pictures, this film was very thin, unlike other films, so it was a little difficult to put and wrap it in a reel.
also, the film could easily fold and damage the image.
It's time to look at the pictures taken using this film.
I put this film on ISO 320.
I developed with Cinestill DF96 and Scanned with Lomography's Digitaliza +

On the one hand, I thought that the characteristics of Lucky Film, which has frequent halations, are the unique charm of this film. I thought it was a bit disappointing that the existence of this halation prevention layer would lose its charm.
Conclusion
This film showed easy performance. Unlike previous BW films, the grain felt a little rough, and the exporsure latitude also felt a little narrow.
Overall, the picture was so soft that it felt like it had lost its sharpness.
I think this film is a good fit for cameras like Holga or Lomo lc-a, which are somewhat less clear but can take unique dreamy images.
It's a film that you'll be disappointed if you want a clear and sharpy result, but if you want a unique munchy and soft image, it's a film worth trying. also, the price of this film is really cheap to try.
Maybe my scanning environment or the use of monobath for fast development has resulted in this.
I'm going to order a few more rolls of this film and do a little more review in different developer and other scan environments.
Thank you for reading the review, I hope you have a great day today :)
